Protecting Your Right to Hire
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has announced an investigation into insurance policy provisions that restrict policyholders from hiring licensed public adjusters.
“Florida homeowners—especially those rebuilding after a hurricane—should have a fair chance to get the full value of their claim,” said Attorney General James Uthmeier.
NAPIA has been actively involved in addressing this issue, including bringing these concerns to the attention of the Florida Attorney General’s office.
This development highlights the importance of NAPIA’s ongoing work to protect policyholder representation and support the public adjusting profession.
The investigation focuses on special policy rules called “anti-public adjuster” clauses. Under these rules, if a homeowner hires a public adjuster, the insurance company can reject the entire claim. Velocity writes thousands of these policies in Florida, covering millions of dollars in premiums.
