Tips on Hiring a Public Adjuster

  • Check the PA’s license at your State’s Department of Insurance website.
  • Ask for referrals from recent clients with a similar type of loss.
  • Ask how insurance payments will be handled and how and when the PA’s fee will be issued.
  • Ask for how long they’ve been a public adjuster and are they a part of any state or national associations.

Taking care of these important details up front can save a lot of time later down the line.

Keep in mind…

  • Public adjusters cannot act as a contractor and the public adjuster on the same claim.
  • Public adjusters must have a license in the state they are working.
  • If a public adjuster pushes you straight to an attorney without doing any work on your claim – contact your state's department of insurance.
