We are all sensitive to the tremendous destruction of property from the recent hurricane in Louisiana. To all public adjusters handling claims for insureds in the state, please note that it is illegal to charge a percentage fee in Louisiana; see La. Stat. tit. 22 § 1703.
For other general information regarding licensing and working in that state, see sections 22: 1693 et seq of the Louisiana Code. Finally, bear in mind that state insurance departments often put out emergency regulations post hurricane and you should stay up to date with these potential emergency regulations through the Louisiana Department of Insurance web site at www.ldi.la.gov.
