NAPIA Asks State Insurance Commissioners to Extend Deadlines for Insurance Claims

This week NAPIA reached out to all state insurance commissioners with a request to extend deadlines for insurance claims involving property losses

NAPIA President Jeff O'Connor, SPPA remarked that "in these uncertain times, public insurance adjusters are stepping up to protect insureds."  In his letter to state insurance commissioners, he strongly urged them to be proactive in protecting insureds who suffer a property loss.  Commissioners were asked to reconsider challenging deadlines facing insureds including deadlines dealing with sworn statements required for a proof of loss, replacement costs, construction restrictions, examinations taken under oath, claims reporting and miscellaneous arbitrary deadlines.  Some regulators and insurers have stepped up and voluntarily extended deadlines.  More states will need to do so especially as the pandemic stretches in to the season for inclement weather.
